Have you ever felt like your prayers are going unanswered? Like you’re calling out to God, but all you hear is silence?
Well, prayer is about so more than just searching for answers. It’s not simply a wish list we want God to fulfill. Jesus invited us to go much deeper than that. In Matthew 7:7, He said,
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
You see, seeking in prayer isn’t just about what He can do for us—it’s about pursuing God Himself. It’s about wanting His presence, His will, and His direction more than anything else.
Jesus modeled this in His own prayers. When He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, He surrendered fully to the Father’s will, saying, “Not my will, but yours, be done” (Luke 22:42). True seeking in prayer means yielding our plans to God and trusting that His way is always best.
Seeking God in prayer also requires surrender. We must lay down our own desires, our fears, and even our limited understanding and trust in His perfect plan. In Romans 12:1–2, the apostle Paul encourages us to “present your bodies as a living sacrifice” and “be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God.”
But seeking also requires persistence. In Matthew 7:7, the verb “seek” is written in a way that means keep on seeking. It’s not a one-time action but a daily pursuit. It means continually asking God to reveal Himself, continually pursuing His presence, and continually knocking until the doors He wants to open are revealed.
So if you’ve ever felt like something is missing in your prayer life, remember this: God wants you to keep on seeking Him first and foremost. And He promises that those who earnestly seek Him will experience His presence, His guidance, and His peace.
