He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ). He brought him to Jesus.
–John 1:41-42
One of the most well known of all the early Christ-followers is Simon, whom Jesus called Simon Peter. And Jesus has so much to say to you and me through this larger-than-life personality.
Simon Peter was the obvious leader of the disciples… a natural leader in many ways. In Scripture we see an excitable person who was emotional and courageous. He was also a classically human character who was given to extremes. At times he was brash and arrogant; his zeal, impetuous.
And it was this same strong man who crumbled like a coward before those Roman soldiers at the hour of Jesus’ arrest. And yes, to save himself, Simon Peter even denied knowing the Lord three times.
But in all his humanity, Simon Peter experienced firsthand the mercy and the grace of Christ Jesus. And the Lord touched him and gave him an extraordinary life serving on the frontlines of the kingdom of heaven on earth.
Can you relate to Simon Peter? Are you flawed and imperfect? Are you just an ordinary person? Well, guess what. We are all flawed and ordinary people!
And Jesus is still in the business of granting uncommon destinies to common people. All you must do is follow him. He’s calling you today.
JESUS IS STILL IN THE BUSINESS OF GIVING
UNCOMMON DESTINIES TO COMMON PEOPLE!
