What the cross really means for you

And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

–1 John 5:11–12

I was recently thinking about just what the cross means for us. I’m not talking about the actual wooden structure on which our Lord was crucified, but the act of love Jesus performed when He died for you and me. And it hit me: The cross means that sin is exposed. It’s a vivid, terrible picture of the consequences of our sinfulness.

As we think about what Jesus did for us, it serves as proof of how much God hates sin. It also shows us a picture of the holiness of God, who knew the only way for our sins to be taken away was for His holy, spotless lamb to die a wretched death.

But not only that, we also see at the cross the glory of God’s love… a love the Old Testament calls hesed. This is a loyal, forever kind of love that’s not based on our performance, but on who God declares us to be.

When God looks at the world through the cross, He says, “I love you and My arms are open wide for you to return to Me.” We do that by conscious faith that Jesus Christ took our sin at the cross so that we can have eternal life. What a wonderful love our Father has for us!

THANK GOD FOR HIS LOYAL LOVE FOR YOU. TRUST JESUS FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF YOUR SINS AND ETERNAL LIFE IS YOURS!
