And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”
–Isaiah 6:8
Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States, was with a group of companions one day as they came to a river that had overflowed its banks and taken out the only bridge for miles. So they had to cross that river on their horses.
There was a bystander who also wanted to go across. And he watched those men as they traveled across the river. After a little while, he approached the President, who was yet to move across the river, and said, “Sir, would you take me across the river on your horse?” Without a question, the President put him on his horse and carried him across safely to the other side
As he dismounted from the horse, one of the companions of Jefferson said to the man, “Why did you ask the President to take you across the river?” With a shocked look on his face, he said, “I didn’t know he was the President. But as I watched, many of your men had a no-face. The President had a yes-face.
