Do you want your faith to flourish?

Many people have asked me: How can I have great faith?

To uncover the mystery, let’s turn our minds to the heroes of the faith whose stories we find in the pages of Scripture. Think of Moses leading the enslaved Israelites to liberty. Or Gideon routing the formidable Midianites. And don’t forget mighty King David conquering Jerusalem and laying the foundation for the coming of the Messiah in his own family line.

And yet, that’s not the full story, is it?

Moses was a murderer and a fugitive. Gideon led the nation into idolatry. And then there’s David – adulterer, liar, and assassin.

Friend, the truth is, just like you and me, all these “heroes” were flawed individuals. And yet God used them… not because they had great character traits, but simply because their trust was in Him!

You see, what makes faith great is the One in Whom it is placed.

Let me show you what I mean.

Picture an airplane about to take off from DFW International Airport. Now picture two passengers. The first is relaxed and at ease, confident that the plane will fly safely to its destination. The second is gripped by panic, fearful the engines might fail at 35,000 feet.

Three and a half hours later, the plane lands safely at JFK.

Both passengers put their faith in the airplane – and it was the airplane that delivered them to their destination, regardless of their emotional response!

Friend, your faith is great if it’s placed in the One Who promises to deliver you safely home – no matter your failings or feelings. So if you want your faith to flourish in 2019, simply “hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:23).
