Experiencing God’s delight

whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

–1 Corinthians 10:31

As you might imagine, I have many people who ask, “Jack, what should I do with my life? How do I please God with my life?”  It’s an important question, because not everyone knows how to live a life that has meaning… that brings pleasure to God.

Well, it reminds me of that great movie, Chariots of Fire. This film presents the story of Eric Liddell, the great Scottish Olympic runner, and the challenges he faced as a young man.

In the early 1900s, Liddell felt called to be a missionary, but at the same time he was a great runner. And there’s a wonderful scene in the movie where he’s talking to his sister, Jenny, and she’s challenging him. She asks, “Why do you run, Eric? Why do you do this when God’s called you to be a missionary?” And he replies, “Yes, Jenny, God is calling me. But God has also made me fast. And when I run, I feel God’s pleasure.”

You see, God delights in the talents and gifts that he gives his children!

Do you want to please God? Then use the talents and gifts that he has given you to his glory!

And whatever he has called you to do, do it in the power and name of Jesus Christ!
