Finding real satisfaction by walking with Christ

But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

–Romans 13:14

If you were to simply walk up to random people on the street today and ask them, “What’s your purpose in life?” you’d probably hear, “I just want to have fun.” or “I want to be happy.” The truth is that for so many, that’s what life is – a vacation to simply be enjoyed in perfect self-sufficiency doing what they want when they want.

And I’ll be the first to admit, there is pleasure in sin… for a season. In fact, I think we make a mistake when we tell others that there’s no pleasure in sin. But amusement and pleasure, while they may gratify, will never truly satisfy.

As a matter of fact, amusement and pleasure just arouse the appetite for more. Sin thrills and then it kills. And even the pleasures and the passions that some people enjoy for a while become a bore and end up bringing addiction, slavery, and habits that are ultimately deadly.

So when it comes to making the decisions that shape who you are, remember that while sin brings pleasure for a little while, it can never give you the kind of joy you can only have when you walk with Christ.

LIVE YOUR LIFE IN OBEDIENCE TO CHRIST BECAUSE WHILE SIN MAY GRATIFY YOUR DESIRES, IT CAN NEVER SATISFY.
