Getting more from God’s Word

Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation…

–1 Peter 2:2-3

How can you get God’s Word into your heart and minds so it can transform you?

Here are a few simple things that will make a big difference in how you relate to the Scripture:

READ IT THROUGH. Now I don’t necessarily mean to read the Bible straight through from cover to cover. Just take small passages at a time and let God use them to transform the way you think about him and your circumstances.

ASK IT QUESTIONS. As you read the Word, ask yourself, “Is there a truth here I need to believe? Is there a promise I need to claim? Is there a duty I need to perform?” Questions help keep you tuned into the Word and help you apply it in a personal way.

PRAY IT. Get God’s Word into your soul and into your spirit by praying the Scripture over your life and over your loved ones.

MARK IT UP. Underline the passages that speak to you and make notes in your Bible. The Scriptures are your personal workbook. Let it become a spiritual journal of your life.

LIVE IT. James 1:22 says to “be doers of the word, and not hearers only.” So live God’s Word and be a consistent witness of a life dedicated to Jesus Christ.

And finally, GIVE IT AWAY. In the Kingdom of God, the best way to keep something is for you to give it away. The more you share the Word with others, the more you will remember.

Begin using these simple principles to make God’s Word a part of your heart and mind, and it will help you “grow up into salvation” in every part of your life!

GROWING UP SPIRITUALLY MEANS THAT GOD’S WORD HAS TO BECOME A PART OF YOUR HEART AND MIND.
