God shall supply all your needs

“My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

— Philippians 4:19

Covetousness, at its root, is a statement of doubt. It says: I do not trust that God will give me what I need. I do not trust that what He has provided is sufficient. I do not trust His judgment about what is good for me. And so I will reach for what He has chosen not to give me, because my appetite is a better guide than His wisdom. That is the posture. And it is a lie straight from the enemy of your soul.

Paul’s answer to covetousness is not willpower. It is a Person. “My God will supply every need of yours.” Not some needs. Not your modest needs. Every need. According to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. That is not a limited budget. That is the limitless abundance of the God who made the universe, channeled through the saving work of Jesus Christ, directed toward your specific and personal situation. Your God is not poor. He is not stingy. He is not indifferent to your need. He is the Father who gave His own Son, and having given that, Paul says, how will He not graciously give us all things as well?

The Tenth Commandment closes the Ten Commandments not as an afterthought but as a capstone. The first commandment says: I am the Lord your God. The last commandment says: trust Him enough to be content with what He gives. They are bookends around the entire moral law. And if you genuinely believe the first, if God is truly your God, the sovereign Lord who loves you and knows you and provides for you, then the last should follow naturally. You do not covet what belongs to someone else when you genuinely believe that the God who gave them that has something different and equally good in store for you.

The psalmist said it beautifully: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1). Not because all my desires are instantly fulfilled. But because the Shepherd is good, and He knows what His sheep need, and He will not let the truly needed thing go unprovided.

He is your God. He knows what you need. Trust Him with the rest.

GOD KNOWS WHAT YOU NEED. TRUST HIS PROVISION MORE THAN YOUR APPETITE.
