How God can change your heart about giving

Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

–2 Corinthians 9:7

Some time ago, a dear lady, whose son was a member of our church, passed away. I spoke with her son about the kind of woman she was, and I’ll never forget what he told me. He said that one thing he remembered most about his mom, a single mom, was her faithfulness when it came to giving.

He said, “When we first came to this town, we had almost nothing to our name. But we were in church every Sunday. And each payday, Mom would first take out what she was going to give before buying anything else. After that, she divided out the rest. But her first action every month was to set aside part of her pay for the Lord.”

Some years later, the Lord blessed that family and the woman and her son became very rich. But throughout poverty and wealth, she maintained her solemn commitment to giving to the Lord first.

No matter how much or how little we have, God invites us to be a part of His Kingdom expansion through giving. So if you have little, be faithful with a little. If you have plenty, be faithful with that as well. Give as God provides and He’ll lavish spiritual blessings on your life!
