How to avoid regret on your last day

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

–Romans 1:16

A minister by the name of Martin Niemöller lived in Nazi Germany at the beginning of World War II. It was a time when minorities and dissidents were being rounded up by the hundreds and thousands, placed in concentration camps, and systematically murdered by the government.

Niemöller described his experience, saying,

“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out – Because I wasn’t a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out – Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out – because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me – and there was no one left to speak for me.”

Group by group, the Nazis killed and killed. And sadly, those who had the power to speak up and save them remained silent. Oh, can you imagine the regret of living in those days, knowing you could’ve done something to help, but you sat on your hands?!

At the end of my life, I don’t want to have any moments where I think back and say, “I wish I would have…” As believers, we can live life without those types of regrets by speaking up for the Gospel. Don’t stay silent. Speak life into our dying world and live life without regret!
