How to be strong in the ‘middle’

And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

–James 1:4

When Deb and I got married we had a house full of antiques. Well, really they were just old hand-me-downs that nobody else wanted, but we were proud of them!

The place where we lived in Abilene, Texas was student housing and it looked like an army barrack. But overall, we had a wonderful house with the exception of one piece of furniture: our bed. You see, it had a good headboard and a good footboard but the mattress sagged in the middle. I had a backache for years and didn’t know why!

As I think back, that bed reminds me of many people’s Christian life. They’re strong at the beginning. They know they’re saved and that Christ lives in their life, and they follow Him faithfully. And they’re strong at the end when they know they’re getting closer to the day when they’ll meet Jesus face to face.

But in the middle years so many are sagging and lagging. They’re just kind of getting by—maybe going to church or picking up their Bible a few times a month—but they’re missing out on the best part: the middle!

God wants you to remain steadfast and faithful when you’re tempted to lag and get lazy. So cling to Him in every season of life and He’ll reward you with a vibrant spiritual walk!

IT’S EASY TO GET TOO COMFORTABLE IN THE ‘MIDDLE’ OF THE CHRISTIAN WALK. SO LEAN ON CHRIST IN EVERY SEASON OF LIFE AND YOU’LL EXPERIENCE HIS ABUNDANT BLESSINGS!
