How to create a loving home for your kids

Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

–1 Corinthians 13:7

A few years ago, I listened to a friend speak to a group of pastors. He is a globally known authority on youth ministry, and he said something I’ll never forget. He told us,

“The number one question asked by teenagers of their fathers today isn’t, ‘Dad, can I have the car keys?’ It’s not, ‘Can you raise my allowance?’ No, the number one question kids ask today is, ‘Dad, do you love mom?’”

So many of our children today live in fear. They have a constant nightmare that, somehow, their family is going to break down. And for far, far too many of these precious boys and girls, that nightmare becomes a reality when either dad or mom checks out of the marital relationship.

I wonder how many families and children have been sacrificed on the altar of their parent’s bad decisions and unwillingness to put their families first. And how many parents have put the interests of their families second to what’s convenient or “feels right” to them?

If you want a family that stays together, love your spouse. Make an unconditional commitment to be there no matter what, through thick and thin. Create a secure, loving home by having a stable marriage with your spouse!
