How to experience joy and oneness in marriage

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”

–Mark 10:7-9

Picture a couple… let’s call them James and Mary. James and Mary have lived most of their lives as masters of their own universe – as King James and Queen Mary – never surrendering their lives to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. James and Mary meet, fall in love, and decide to get married.

So here are James and Mary with their own two little kingdoms. So naturally, they bring their kingdoms and their expectations into the marriage. And the first time there’s a conflict… BOOM! It’s ego on ego. And then when kids come along, it gets even worse. This is all because King James and Queen Mary have set up their own kingdoms. And how dare anything infringe upon those!

James and Mary’s story is played out in the homes of countless married couples each and every day. Rather than a spirit of mutual submissiveness to God’s headship, there’s conflict, division, strife, and selfishness because both of them are seeking the good of themselves first, not the good of the other.

Maybe you resonate with James and Mary’s relationship. But there’s one sure way to fix it: destroy your own kingdom and submit to God’s headship in your marriage. When you do, you’ll experience the joy and oneness that comes with a marriage founded on Jesus Christ!

EXPERIENCE JOY AND ONENESS WITH YOUR SPOUSE BY SURRENDERING TO GOD’S HEADSHIP IN YOUR MARRIAGE.
