How to follow God’s will even when it’s tough

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

–Jeremiah 29:11

I remember when I first heard from a pastoral search committee from Prestonwood Church in Dallas, Texas. It was a call out of nowhere. And as I began speaking with them, I sensed God was up to something big. So I was offered the position in Dallas, and my wife, Deb, and I had a tough decision ahead of us because, well, we loved Florida.

I was happy and fulfilled as a pastor in West Palm Beach. I’d never even thought about leaving there. But it soon became clear God had other ideas. And so Deb and I got to the place where we said, “Lord, not our will, but Your will.” And we trusted Him as we stepped out into very uncertain territory.

When we sensed God was leading us to Dallas, it was so hard to leave our comfort zone. But in the 33 years since, we’ve seen God move in such incredible ways and have experienced amazing joy at our church today. However, we had to trust God first in order to experience His blessings down the road.

Maybe today, you find yourself at a crossroad, wondering what to do. Well, let me tell you from experience, God’s plan isn’t always the path of least resistance. But if you’ll seek His will and trust in Him as you follow it one step at a time, you’ll experience the amazing joy He has for you!

GOD’S WILL MAY TAKE YOU INTO UNCERTAIN TERRITORY. BUT TRUST HIM ENOUGH TO FOLLOW IT AND HE’LL BRING YOU TO A PLACE OF BLESSING!
