How to love God with your mind

And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment.”

–Matthew 22:37-38

Awhile back, I was taking a break and doing some thinking about my childhood. So I decided to just let my mind roam and see where it took me. As I began to reflect as far back as I could, I was amazed by what was still in my brain from many years ago.

One of the most astonishing things was that when I was picturing things, I wasn’t just seeing them and hearing them. I smelled the chalk line on my little league field. I tasted my sixth birthday cake. These were things I hadn’t reflected on in years. But in the moment, I was experiencing them all over again.

The mind is a very powerful tool. And if we delve into it, the possibilities are literally endless. If God created us with such an amazing ability to store information, think critically, and question what we know, don’t you think He wants us to use that for His glory?

A lot of believers today have an aversion to worshiping God with the mind. They see faith as an exercise of the heart only. But the truth is that God never tells us to check our minds at the door. Engage your faith with your mind. God’s given it to you for that very reason!

DON’T CHECK YOUR BRAIN AT THE CHURCH DOOR. ENGAGE YOUR FAITH WITH YOUR MIND, NOT JUST YOUR HEART.
