Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.
–1 Corinthians 12:4-6
I remember when Deb and I had just gotten married, and we went to the pound and bailed out a little puppy for our first dog. We brought him home, but we didn’t have a fence. So I went to the hardware store and bought one of these fences you just roll out. I thought it would be easy.
I spent about five days on that “easy” fence, and it never did keep the dog in. I learned that day that God has given each of us gifts, but He didn’t give me the gift of building things. In fact, it took much more time and energy to get that fence working correctly than if I had just hired someone to build it in the first place!
The problem with many today is that they want to be “gifted” at everything. They have an idea in their minds of what defines greatness, and they aspire to it in every form and fashion. But the reality is that God has gifted everyone in some key ways for His Kingdom. No one is gifted in every way.
Instead of aspiring for what the world defines as greatness, look first at how God has created you and be willing to be used in that way. While you don’t have every gift imaginable, you do have what He’s given you and you can do great things in His name!
DON’T ASPIRE TO HAVE EVERY GIFT. INSTEAD, FOCUS ON HOW GOD HAS GIFTED YOU AND YOU’LL DO GREAT THINGS FOR HIM!
