… and take the helmet of salvation…
–Ephesians 6:17
One of the most important pieces of protective equipment in any job, sport, or battle is the helmet. Take a football helmet, for example. Since the early 1900s, there have been countless improvements to this piece of equipment.
The reason for this is that protecting the head is so important. You can dislocate your shoulder and live a normal life. You can break your leg and, through healing and rehabilitation, you can walk again. But if something happens to your brain, the effects are most often irreversible.
That’s why in today’s Scripture we see the apostle Paul exhorting those in spiritual warfare to take up the “helmet of salvation,” the most important piece of protective equipment, because just as the helmet protects the brain, so the salvation we have protects the mind.
In battle, Satan will do all he can to deal you a crushing blow to the head – your mind. And when he does, it’s crucial that you’re wearing the helmet of salvation, a hedge of protection that will enable you to resist these most destructive attacks.
You can win the battle for your mind when you keep your faith firmly placed in Jesus Christ for salvation. Like a helmet, He’ll protect you from the enemy’s attacks so you can live in victory!
