How you can be salt and light to the world

“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.”

–Matthew 5:13-14

One Saturday night awhile back, I was discussing with my wife Deb a sermon I was getting ready to preach the next day about having a burden to share the Gospel with others. And as we spoke, I came to realize that much of the church today has become very laid back about their witness. They don’t want to offend and they don’t want to run anyone off. So they’ve just stopped sharing the Gospel.

And it occurred to me that as long as I’ve been living – as many planes as I’ve been on – as many athletic teams as I’ve been a part of – and as many times as I’ve walked up and down a street, not one single person has ever walked up to me and shared Jesus Christ.

Now, I’m not saying we should all go be street evangelists, but it’s very telling to me that it’s never once happened. And when I think about why, the best explanation is that there’s a general lack of urgency among Christians today for the lost. Their fear of sharing and hesitancy to be offensive outweighs their concern for the eternal fate of others.

It’s time for us as a church to be bold. To step out in faith and show the world we love them enough to be uncomfortable. It’s time for the church to be the salt and light we are called to be. So do your part and share Christ with others!

BE SALT AND LIGHT IN THE WORLD BY SHARING THE MESSAGE OF JESUS CHRIST WITH OTHERS!
