How you can build character into your kids

Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.

–1 Corinthians 11:1

I was talking to a friend of mine awhile back about being a dad. He told me, “You know, Jack, the greatest moments about being a father aren’t when my kids do well in school or hit a home run in little league. The greatest moments are when I see them becoming people of character.”

I agreed with him. And it reminded me of a time when our son was little and I bought him a toy. He took a look at it, looked up at me, and said, “Thanks, dad.” Boy, I wanted to go back in the store and get him another one!

As a parent, I came to the realization that everything I did was either going to build character into my children or steer them in the wrong direction. Yes, it was a little scary. But one of the most freeing things about it was knowing I didn’t have to be perfect… I just had to help my kids realize that Jesus was.

Don’t lead your kids to expect perfection from you. Instead, point them to the One who is truly perfect: Jesus Christ. Exhibit Christlikeness before your children and you’ll help build a Christ-like character in them for a lifetime!

HELP BUILD LASTING CHRIST-LIKE CHARACTER IN YOUR CHILDREN BY SHOWING THEM CHRIST-LIKE CHARACTER IN YOURSELF!
