Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.
–1 Thessalonians 5:11
I heard about a man who had a long-distance relationship with his girlfriend. He made it a point to write to her every day, 365 days a year! After a year had passed, he received a letter back that said, “Thank you so much for your letters, but you can stop writing me now. I’m marrying the mailman.”
When it comes to church, you can’t have a long-distance relationship. You’ve got to be there! That’s why we come together… to fellowship, encourage each other, and speak truth into each other’s lives. You just can’t get that by staying home.
I hear people all the time say, “I want to be in church. But I can’t find one that fits me.” Well, in many parts of the world, we have more churches within 10 minutes of us than those in the early church had in their whole city! So if they could find a church that “fit,” we can too.
Don’t miss out on one of God’s greatest gifts to His people: the fellowship of other people and the encouragement they bring to our lives. Get grounded in a solid church and experience the joy of being present and investing your life in the lives of other believers in Christ!
