When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.”
–John 21:15
Try this: close your eyes and think about the best teacher you ever had—the one that made the greatest impact on you. It doesn’t matter what subject it was, and it can even be a Sunday School or Bible study teacher. Just think of one teacher that’s really affected you at some point in your life.
Now if you were called upon to stand up in front of a crowd and tell them all the things that person taught you, you’d have a hard time because you probably don’t remember a whole lot. So what made this person a good teacher? It was how much he or she encouraged you, inspired you, spoke to your needs, and helped you in life.
People often tell me, “Pastor, I can’t disciple others in the faith because I don’t have the gift of teaching.” But let me tell you, good teaching is just a small part of how you can impact others’ lives. What’s most important is how you encourage them, inspire them, and help them.
Don’t fall into the trap of believing you can’t lead others. If the Spirit of God is in you, He can show God’s love through you and encourage others in the faith. The pressure is off, and you can confidently disciple others and help them grow in Jesus Christ!
FEED GOD’S SHEEP BY HELPING OTHERS GROW IN THEIR FAITH THROUGH ENCOURAGING AND INSPIRING THEM TO GROW IN JESUS CHRIST!
