Living the life that Christ has for you

Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

–1 John 5:12

We’re spoiled with choices when it comes to buying automobiles today. If you watched the Super Bowl last night for any length of time, chances are high that you’ll see a car commercial. From SUVs to pickup trucks to electric cars, there’s almost no limit to the bells and whistles you can add to your journey from point A to point B.

And do you know why that is? It’s because buying cars today is about more than just finding something to get you around. We want to arrive at our destination with the satisfaction that comes with enjoying our journey. There’s an innate sense within all of us that the journey matters!

Now in a very real way, life is a journey to our eternal destination, isn’t it? But when a lot of people read today’s verse, they automatically assume that what it means here is ‘eternal life’. Now, while I completely agree that eternal life in heaven is encompassed in the ‘life’ we’re reading about, it’s not the only subject here!

The apostle John is writing here about an earthly and heavenly life that is qualitatively different than a life apart from Christ. It’s a life with a distinctiveness that sets it apart from all other kinds of living—a life that matters.

When you trust in Christ, you’ll have a more fulfilling earthly and heavenly life. So remember that while the world provides pleasures that seem good, they are nothing compared to the life you can live by following Christ!

YOUR EARTHLY JOURNEY AND ETERNAL DESTINATION WILL BE FOREVER CHANGED FOR THE BETTER BY TRUSTING IN CHRIST ALONE!
