Looking forward to the joyous ending ahead

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

–Revelation 21:4

When I was a little boy, there was a series of novels I used to love reading whose main character was a sports star by the name of Chip Hilton. Chip was the all-around athlete, playing basketball, baseball, football, and other sports. And in the story, Chip would lead his team to victory every single time.

Now, I love Chip Hilton-type stories even today. But I realize that in life, we don’t always get those happy endings we want. You get laid off from your job… your family feels like it’s falling apart… your friend betrays your trust. These can be devastating.

But what keeps us going, if we’re in Christ, is the fact that our joyous ending is in the works. This means that while we may not have the ending we want today, we can be sure that a better day is ahead – a day when there will be no more pain or suffering. The best is yet to come!

This truth that we’ll ultimately be victorious can help carry us through our darkest days. So when it feels like your joyous ending is nowhere in sight, remember God’s promise to restore everything and let that encourage you through whatever trial you face!
