Maintaining self-control when stress hits

A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.

–Proverbs 25:28

I heard about a dad who took his little baby to the mall and the baby starting crying. Soon that crying turned to screaming that seemed to go on and on. As a lady walked by, she heard the man saying, “Now, Albert. Settle down, Albert. Settle down.”

So she walked up and said, “Sir, I am just so impressed with the way you talk to your little baby. You’re so kind and patient to little Albert there. I wish there were more dads like you!”

The man replied, “Thank you, ma’am, but I’m Albert.”

Sometimes, a little self-talk can help when things seem out of control, can’t it? Quite often, the best thing to do is simply remind yourself that God is really in control and hand it over to Him. You may be at work, at home, or wherever, but it’s always good to keep an eternal perspective when stress hits.

Maybe today, you need an eternal perspective in a stressful situation. Perhaps you’ve even already snapped at someone and you need to apologize for that. Whatever it is, remember that in the midst of stress, God wants you to have self-control by remembering that He is the one who really has the control!

WHEN THE STRESSES OF LIFE HIT, MAINTAIN YOUR SELF-CONTROL BY REMEMBERING THAT GOD IS THE ONE WHO’S REALLY IN CONTROL!
