For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come… nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Do you ever worry that you could lose your salvation? That you might do something so awful you’d no longer be saved? Many sincere believers carry that fear quietly. So let me point you to the grand finale of Romans 8, where Paul stacks up everything in the universe that might threaten you, and declares that not one of them can separate you from the love of God.
Look at the sweep of his list. Death, can’t do it. Life, can’t do it. Angels and rulers, the spiritual powers behind the scenes, can’t do it. Things present, the troubles you’re facing right now. Things to come, whatever waits around the bend you can’t yet see. Powers, height, depth, and then, as if to slam the door on every loophole, “nor anything else in all creation.” Paul leaves nothing out. There is no force, no failure, no enemy, no circumstance that can sever you from the love of God in Christ.
Many people wonder what makes Jesus different from every other religious leader. Someone put it like this: most religious leaders take living men and move them toward death. But Christ takes dead people and moves them toward life. He alone conquered death and has the power to give eternal life to all who believe in Him.
That’s why, in a chapter all about the trials that can come against us, Paul ends in the language of unstoppable victory. He can write “I am sure”, not “I hope,” not “I think,” but “I am sure”, because the One holding him is alive. Every other religious leader of history is dead and in a grave. Only Jesus is still living, still leading, still loving His people, still giving them victory over the grave.
Here’s why your salvation cannot be lost: it never depended on your grip on God in the first place. It depends on His grip on you. When you trusted Christ, your eternal future was secured by His finished work, not your fragile performance. As Psalm 103 says, “As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.”
But maybe guilt still nags at you, for the past, or for something you’re wrestling with right now. Maybe a deep sense of regret keeps you from drawing near to God. If so, hear Paul again: nothing can separate you from God’s love. Not your worst yesterday. Not your hardest today. Not one single thing.
So claim this promise and commit these verses to memory. The next time Satan tempts you to doubt your standing in Christ, don’t argue with him in your own strength, say these words out loud and stand on the promises of God.
Praise God that you are not following a dead prophet but a living Savior. And rest, finally and fully, in this: nothing in all creation can separate you from His love.
