Representing Christ in your financial obligations

Jesus said to them, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.” And they marveled at him.

–Mark 12:17

I heard about a revival that took place in a small town in rural Oklahoma. Now, the banker of this particular little town was not a Christian, and had never once darkened the door of a church. But something struck him as odd about the way people were changing.

He was downtown at a little coffee shop and said to some of his friends, “You know, these Christians are having a big revival down at the church.” So his friend asked him, “How do you know? You don’t even know what a church looks like!”

He responded, “Because all the Christians are finally paying their bills!”

You know, while that little story is funny, it’s also sad. I personally know several businessmen who’ve said that some of the people whom they dislike doing business with the most are people who claim to be Christians. That’s the exact opposite of how things should be!

When it comes to your earthly obligations, meet them – even exceed them. Pay your loans back early if you can. Don’t be overly argumentative when it comes to business dealings. And most importantly, have a generous heart. When you show Christ’s love in every area of life, you’ll be amazed at who will notice!

AS A CHRISTIAN, REPRESENT CHRIST WELL BY MEETING, AND EVEN EXCEEDING, YOUR FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS.
