Start breaking the bondage of any addiction by using God’s truth to defeat the lies

We all know people who’ve become trapped as they’ve turned to alcohol, drugs, tobacco, medications, or food for comfort. Then there are others who’ve become controlled by behaviors – gambling, sexual immorality, or overwork. It’s also possible to become addicted to an emotion, like anger, grief, or negativity.

Whatever the addiction, the root of the problem is deception. Since Eden, Satan has been the father of lies. And when it comes to addiction, his lies abound:

“I don’t really have a problem.”

“It’s just one drink.”

“I can quit at anytime.”

“I’m not hurting anyone else.”

“It’s just the way I am.”

The path to breaking free from addiction begins by turning away from these lies – recognizing, exposing, and confessing them – and turning to Jesus. Because only His truth – about our weakness and His power – can break the bondage of addiction.

We need to learn to live in the victory Christ won for us – because as John 8:36 says, “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
