Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation.
–Hebrews11:1-2
If you didn’t know better, you might be tempted to think that the “Hall of Faith” in Hebrews 11 is some kind of museum for super saints. But it’s not!
God’s tribute to the faithful is filled with ordinary people, people just like you and me. And there’s not a perfect person among them! In fact, on this list are former charlatans, liars, drunks, and a harlot.
And so you might say, “What made these people special? What caused God to single these people out?” I’ll tell you.
The members of the “Hall of Faith” weren’t commended based on their personal greatness, but because of the greatness of God at work in their lives. You see, more importantly than just having faith, they each had great faith in God. And it was their faith in God that ultimately changed situations, lives, and history.
Do you face hardships that leave you defeated and depleted? There’s an answer for that. You need greater faith in him, and you can have it! It’s time to walk in the footprints of the faithful.
Start reading the stories of people of faith… stories of Moses, Gideon, Enoch, Rahab, and Abraham… and you will develop a faith that wins at life.
