The key to avoiding spiritual peaks and valleys

“Every valley shall be lifted up,

            and every mountain and hill be made low;

the uneven ground shall become level,

            and the rough places a plain.”

–Isaiah 40:4

I was never much of a builder, but one thing I loved to do when I was young was to build Soap Box Derby cars. If you’re not familiar with Soap Box Derby races, you put your car at the top of a hill, get someone to give you a shove, and try to make it down the hill first.

Gradually, you begin slowing down until you come to a complete stop. And if you want to go again, you have to take your car back up the hill and have someone give you a shove again. You can go as long as you want, but you have to keep starting over.

I know many Christians who are like that in their spiritual lives. As long as someone is there to drag them back to the top of the hill and give them a push, they’re doing just fine. They go from one seminar or conference to the next emotional high. They live their Christian lives from experience to experience.

God’s desire for us, however, is that we’d walk with Him daily. He wants us to allow Him to fill our emotional cup – rather than some event. So spend time with Him daily, walking with Him every minute of your day. When you have constant fellowship with God, you’ll be less likely to fall into spiritual valleys after coming off the peaks.

AVOID SPIRITUAL PEAKS AND VALLEYS BY WALKING CONSTANTLY WITH GOD AND ALLOWING HIM TO FILL YOUR CUP DAILY.
