The only way you can have real life

And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ…

–Ephesians 2:1-5

If you’ve ever lost a loved one, you know the feeling of finality that comes with death. And while you and I know that those who are saved are at home with the Lord, we would be deceiving ourselves if we weren’t saddened by the ending of a life.

But did you know that you and I were dead before we were even born? You see, our spiritual death happened long ago when Adam and Eve sinned against God and were kicked out of the Garden. The Scripture here couldn’t be clearer: apart from Christ, you and I are spiritual corpses.

Now, you’ll hear from some that following Christ just helps us be better people. But when a person comes to Christ, he moves from a spiritual corpse to being more alive than ever. That’s a radical change!

But this new life can’t be attained on your own. No, you must have your faith fully placed in Christ’s death and resurrection for the forgiveness of your sins. When that happens, you are moved from spiritual death to the life God wants you to have!

Life isn’t found anywhere in this world. It’s in Christ alone! So trust in him to give you life today… and every day.

WHILE WE ARE SPIRITUALLY DEAD ON OUR OWN, WE ARE MADE ALIVE IN CHRIST IF WE TRUST IN HIM!
