The progressive aspect of your salvation

Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you – unless you believed in vain.

–1 Corinthians 15:1-2

An old cowboy once said, “I’m not what I’m gonna be. I’m not what I ought to be. But, thank God, I’m not what I was!” He understood the key truth of the Scriptures that as Christians, you and I are in process. We are under construction and by the Spirit of God living in us we’re being made like Jesus Christ. We are being saved in a progressive sense.

You see, in Christ, you and I can confidently say “I have been saved,” because we’re guaranteed eternal live through Christ. But we can also say, “I am being saved,” because at the moment we come to Christ, God begins the process of making us more like Christ. He starts to develop a Christ-like character in us. And as we grow more and more like Him, we’re progressively saved to good works!

So while you were once immediately saved in your spirit, you are also progressively being saved in your soul. God is taking your mind, your will, and your emotions and bringing them to purity and sanctification in Jesus Christ.

As you go about your time here on earth, remember that God has saved you, but He’s far from done with you. Be open to His calling to become more Christ-like. And as you do, you’ll be sanctified in your salvation and transformed in the way you live!

IF YOU’RE IN CHRIST, GOD HAS SAVED YOU, BUT HE’S NOT DONE WITH YOU. SO BE OPEN TO HIS LEADING TOWARD A MORE CHRIST-LIKE LIFE!
