Walk Pure in a Polluted World

…but as He who called you is holy, you also holy in all your conduct.”

— 1 Peter 1:15b

I hear a lot of talk today in Christian circles about people who say, “I want to be healthy,” and others who say, “I want to be happy,” but what God intends for us is that we be holy. Whether we are healthy or not, or whether we are happy externally or not, we should be holy in the Lord.

What does it mean to be holy? To live a holy life?

Well, the word holy literally means to be separated. It means to be separated from sin. It means to be separated from all that which is unholy.

Now, I’m not suggesting that we all go find a monastery somewhere and put on hair shirts, because holiness is not found in a cave somewhere. I believe holiness is to be lived and walked in a polluted world. “Let your light shine before men.”

Holiness means that while there is contact with the world, there is not contamination by the world. Holiness is not just for ministers or missionaries or church leaders, but to be holy is the call of God upon every Christian’s life. “Be holy, for I am holy.”

HOLINESS COMES FROM THE HEART.
