We are pro-life because God is pro-life

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.”

— Psalm 139:13

God is pro-life. Not because it is a political position, but because He is the Author of life. He formed you. He knit you together in your mother’s womb. He saw your embryo before a single day of your life had taken shape, and He wrote out every one of those days in His book. That is not poetry being metaphorical about something impersonal. That is revelation being precise about something profoundly personal. You were known by God before you were known by anyone else.

At our Prestonwood Pregnancy Center, we have seen this truth transform lives one appointment at a time. When a young woman in crisis sees the image of her child on a sonogram, the heartbeat, the movement, the distinctly individual life already taking shape, something shifts. Seventy-five to eighty percent of those who come in expecting to choose abortion change their minds. Not because someone lectured them. Because the truth became visible. Because the image of God in that child became impossible to deny.

We must be clear-eyed as believers about what abortion is. It is the taking of an innocent life. That is what the Sixth Commandment forbids. And we must say so without apology, while at the same time extending the same grace that God has extended to us. I am not standing at this pulpit to condemn anyone who has made this decision. The blood of Jesus Christ covers this sin as surely as it covers every other. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow” (Isaiah 1:18). The grace of God is available to every person who brings their guilt to the cross.

But the people of God cannot be silent. The voices from our pulpits and our pews must be raised clearly and consistently for the dignity of every human life from conception to natural death. Not just in election seasons. Every season. We are the ones who believe that every person bears the image of God. We are the ones who know that before the first heartbeat, there was a plan. We are the ones who will speak when others will not.

God is pro-life. So are we. And we must show the world what that looks like, not just in words, but in the care we provide, the compassion we extend, and the lives we welcome.

GOD KNEW YOU BEFORE YOU WERE BORN. SPEAK UP FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT YET SPEAK.
