What it really means to live by the Word

“And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.”

–Deuteronomy 8:3

I’ve never been much of a window shopper. But I’ve known people who love to walk down the street, check out what’s in the stores, yet never even think about setting foot inside. They love the convenience of appreciating something, but they won’t commit to buying it.

Over the years, I’ve discovered that many people like to window shop through the Bible. They like this and that, but they never buy it. They never claim it as their own. They take a few verses here and there, put them on their walls and their bumper stickers, but fail to live by the Word and experience it in their daily lives.

But if we want to begin enjoying the great inheritance that God has given us in His deposit of faith, the Bible, we have to be much more than window shoppers. We have to step inside, discover what the Bible really has to say to us, and claim every promise that’s ours as children of God.

God’s words of life are found in the pages of the Scriptures. Don’t just give them a cursory glance. Dig deep into God’s Word and make it your own!

INSTEAD OF ‘WINDOW SHOPPING’ THE BIBLE, STEP INTO IT AND MAKE IT YOUR OWN.
