What you’ll experience in God’s presence

And (God) said (to Moses), “I will make all my goodness pass before you and will proclaim before you my name ‘The LORD.’ And I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy. But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for man shall not see me and live.”

–Exodus 33:19-20

What do you think it would be like to spend five minutes in the presence of God? It’s always interesting to hear people describe near-death experiences where they travel to heaven and meet God. But one, in particular, really made me think.

A man was talking about how he died, and then he gave a very strange description of heaven. He was nonchalantly talking about when he saw God, almost as if he was describing a trip to Disney World. But when we read about people who encounter God in the Scriptures, we find a very different picture – one of awe and trembling in humility.

When we stand in the presence of God – if we can even stand in that moment – we’ll be so blown away by the glory and power that’s before us that there will be no words to describe it. We won’t walk up and say, “Hey, God!” It will be all we can do to even utter a word.

God is so unbelievably holy – completely and utterly set apart from anything of this world. And in the presence of that holy God, even the most holy of men and women like Moses will be humbled. Don’t give lip service to God’s glory. Be humbled at His majesty!

IN GOD’S PRESENCE, YOU’LL BE AWED BEYOND WORDS OR ACTIONS. DON’T TAKE HIS GLORY LIGHTLY – BE HUMBLED AT HIS MAJESTY.
