What’s the point of giving?

“… but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.”

–Matthew 6:20

I want to ask you a serious question: How long has it been since you really thought about your giving to the cause of Jesus Christ? Most people I’ve spoken with haven’t thought about it. If they give at all, it’s either a straight percentage or just whatever they have left over at the end of the day.

But God wants you to really think about your giving, not to do it mindlessly. For many people, the straight-up tithe is how God leads them to give. Yet there are others who have been blessed financially and can give a greater percentage of their income than 10 percent.

However much God has led you to give, it shouldn’t be a matter of compulsion or pressure. Your giving should be with a cheerful heart, knowing you’re providing resources to advance the Kingdom of God in the world (2 Corinthians 9:7). It’s not a chore… it’s a privilege to be a part of ministry!

The more you acquire, the more you’ll eventually lose. But when you give, you’re making an investment in eternity and storing up your treasure in heaven. So give generously and joyfully, knowing your gifts have an eternal purpose!

GIVE GENEROUSLY AND CHEERFULLY, STORING YOUR TREASURES IN HEAVEN – NOT IN EARTHLY THINGS.
