Where to find God’s blessings

Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

–James 1:16–17

One of our church members has been heavily involved in our missions program over the years and not long ago went with a group to Romania to work in an orphanage. She said she felt God really lay a burden on her heart for these orphans. So before she went, she collected socks for them. She said their eyes lit up as soon as they saw them!

But she noticed one little child in the corner – smaller than the other kids at the orphanage. In fact, he was so small that she didn’t have any socks that would fit him… or so she thought. She looked through her boxes of socks and, by “accident,” a pair of smaller socks had been placed in one of the boxes she brought!

That little Romanian orphan was so glad to have something as small as a pair of warm socks for the winter. When she returned, she told us, “I learned that day that God’s blessings are so often in the little things… like finding an extra pair of smaller socks.” What an amazing truth!

Maybe today you could really use a blessing from God. And the truth is that the blessings He wants to give you might be in the form of something small like an encouraging word from a friend or an unexplainable sense of peace. Whatever it is, expect God to come through in the big and small things of life!

DON’T JUST LOOK FOR GOD’S BLESSINGS IN THE BIG THINGS. EXPECT HIM TO COME THROUGH IN THE SMALL THINGS AS WELL!
