Will Rogers was standing before a customs agent at an airport one day and was asked, “Mr. Rogers, can we see your birth certificate?” Will asked the agent, “What for?” “Well,” the agent said, “to prove your birth.”
He said, “I’m here, ain’t I? That ought to be proof enough!”
Well, with all due respect to Will Rogers, it’s important to have proof of something if you’re going to make a claim about it. I know many couples who keep their marriage licenses in a frame or a keepsake box. As an officiant at many weddings, I’ve signed more than I can count!
Whether it be a birth certificate or marriage license, these credentials serve as proof of a deeper reality. And in much the same way, the Holy Spirit is the proof, our credential, that we belong to Jesus Christ. And it’s by the Holy Spirit that we know we belong to Him. We’ve been signed, sealed, and delivered.
The greatest proof you have of your salvation is the change that’s happening in your life by the power of the Spirit of God. Remember… He’s sealed you, He’s declared you to be fit for eternity, and He’s transforming you each and every day.
