Worshipping Christ in the cult of personality

For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.

–Colossians 2:9-10

Years ago when Warren G. Harding was the President of the United States, he regularly attended church in the Washington D.C. area. There was a lady who heard about the church he always attended and she had always wanted to meet the president. So she went to church just so she could meet President Harding.

She walked up to the pastor before the service and asked him, “Sir, is the president going to be in the service today?” And the pastor replied, “I’m not sure, madam, but the King of kings and the Lord of lords is going to be here today.”

So often these days, I see people who become so star struck with celebrities, politicians, “influencers,”, and even pastors that they forget who the object of their attention should be. And while there’s nothing wrong with respecting and praying for people in high positions, it’s important to always remember that God is the only one who can give and take away status or fame in a heartbeat.

So as you think about the people you put on a pedestal, remember that God is Lord over all and He is the only one who deserves your utmost devotion!

DON’T ALLOW WORLDLY FAME OR STATUS TO DETERMINE THE OBJECT OF YOUR WORSHIP. TURN YOUR AFFECTIONS TOWARDS GOD, THE KING OF KINGS AND THE LORD OF LORDS!
