Your constant companion in life

“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

–Deuteronomy 31:6

A young seminary student was preaching in a country church and he was reading this text from the book of Deuteronomy. Well, he had just been to Hebrew class and he’d learned about the intensive Hebrew form, which intensifies the word and makes a more emphatic statement.

“And so when it says, ‘He will never leave you or forsake you,’” he pointed out, “it means he will never, never, never, leave you or forsake you.” Well, he was so proud of himself for being smart enough to point that out to his congregation.

So after the service, a little old lady walked up to him and said, “Young man, thank you for your wonderful sermon. I don’t know how many times God has to say he won’t leave for you seminary fellows, but once is enough for me!”

As Christians, what part of “never” don’t we understand? God has promised us that he will be with us always. And it’s with that confidence that we push forward past all obstacles to our upward calling in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14).

So when it comes to living your life for God’s purposes, you can do so confidently knowing that he will never leave you!

LIVE EACH DAY FOR CHRIST KNOWING THAT HE WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU.
