Your role in the local body of Christ

As it is, there are many parts, yet one body.

–1 Corinthians 12:20

When I was a child, my parents taught me that when I participated in something, I was to pull my own weight. I wasn’t supposed to just be a bystander or a spectator and let others do what I needed to be doing. That’s how many in my generation were taught.

Today, we unfortunately find that mindset less and less among the new generation of believers. Our levels of disposable income are at an all-time high. Yet studies show that churchgoers are giving less and less. So why is that?

Well, I think there are several reasons to explain this. But the one that I think best accounts for this phenomenon is that people today are driven by a consumer mentality. They want church on their terms, and then see their giving as their admission price for what they got out of it.

But I want to challenge you to get on board with your church in its mission and ministry. Yes, we can find ways to be cynical about church, and no church is perfect. But it’s the God-ordained expression of the Kingdom in your community. Be a contributor, not just a consumer, in your church!

DON’T JUST BE A CONSUMER; BE A CONTRIBUTOR TO THE MISSION AND MINISTRY OF YOUR LOCAL CHURCH.
