As I look at our world today, I see so many people who are afraid – they’re worried about the future, fearful about the present, and ashamed about the past. These fears act like emotional drags upon their spirit that keep them from becoming all that God has called them to be.
I’ll never forget one Christmas Day many years ago when one of my children, after opening up all of his presents, came to me and said, “Daddy, I’m bored!” There we were, wrapping paper everywhere, brand new toys all over the floor, and he played with them for about 30 minutes before he was bored!
I was on an airplane one day on my way back to Texas, and as I usually do on flights, I sat back, relaxed, and pulled out a book to read. I had full confidence in the pilot, and wasn’t worried in the least about arriving safely.
I’ll never forget being awakened one night by a call from one of our best friends at church. She was sobbing uncontrollably. So Deb and I got on the phone together and she told us that her husband – one of my very best friends and a leader in our church – was abandoning his family and running off with a 19-year-old girl.
